When I gave my cuponto the hostess she said you can order anything on the menu except the ribeye. I went to breakfast anticipating the ribeye. I had a different room but the exact same problems with the heat. SO on the way back I was again at Gila Bend when I was ready to call it a day. The next morning I went to breakfast and ordered ribeye and steak and it was pretty good. It was too noisy to sleep throuhg so you had to turn it off. It would blow for about two minutes make a HUGE racket and then turn off for 15 minutes without ever really heating up the room. THe heat came from the Air Conditioner but it pretty much never came. The room was OK with the exception of the Heater/A/C.

I stayed here on the way to California and it was almost $ 100, which was pretty pricey for a Best Western, howver they gave me a cupon for free breakfast at their restaurant. The decorations were interesting-with the small town atmosphere I felt like Roswell must be just around the corner! We were glad to avoid the Phoenix traffic and have everything close at hand. There is also a little grocery store down the street where we picked up food for lunch. We've been other places before where the "continental breakfast" meant juice and a bagel-if you come before everything's gone.

The price included a full regular breakfast at the restaurant next door. I was awake for a while and didn't hear anything. I read the other reviews so came prepared for noise (my husband brought his earplugs) but our room was in the arm towards the lobby, with rooms between us and the tracks, and there actually wasn't any problem with that. I especially enjoyed sitting in the hot tub relaxing and listening to all the birds in the trees nearby! Since we don't have a laptop it was nice to be able to use intenet in the lobby. The hotel is easy to find,right on the main drag, but the street was really quiet. The one exception is to the south, as the desert here lies at the edge of the vast Barry M Goldwater Air Force Range, and is closed to general access.This was a great place to stop at between San Diego and Phoenix! By Gila Bend we were ready to stop driving.
Undeveloped public land surrounds Gila Bend in most directions, including Woolsey Peak Wilderness to the north and Maricopa Mountains Wilderness to the east, part of Sonoran Desert National Monument. Most facilities in town are spread out along 2 miles of the main road ( Pima Street), including about a dozen restaurants and a limited selection of lodging the town is exactly half way (115 miles) between Tucson and Yuma, so a logical place to break the journey. Other scattered ranges dot the horizon but the immediate surroundings are flat, empty desert, apart from some irrigated land near the river. The small city of Gila Bend is situated along Hwy 85 near the I-8 intersection (exit 115), three miles from the Gila River which curves from the north to the west, round the edge of the Gila Bend Mountains.
